Jesse

Jesse__DadIf you are serious or are considering adopting a pet, please take a moment to read my story.

I'd like to introduce you to Jesse. Jesse is a 5-6 year old German Shepherd mix (possibly part border collie). The information that I have been able to gather is that she lived outdoors and in a barn for most of her life. At some point in time, Jesse had a problem with her eyes, but unfortunately her former owner neglected to seek veterinary care.Due to this neglect, Jesse is now partially blind. We adopted Jesse from Forgotten Felines and Fidos back in mid May, and it was one of the best decisions I've ever made. Jesse is a wonderful addition to our family, and it is now hard to remember life before Jesse joined us. She is our best friend, and asks for nothing in return other than a safe home and our love. I pray to God that we will be blessed with her presence in our lives for many years to come.

Before adopting Jesse, we were told that Jesse was slightly overweight. Well, the following day, we realized thatJesse__SisJesse was not overweight at all. After her bath, good thorough brushings, and ointment for her fly bites, our Jesse was quite a beautiful dog. Then, after a few more weeks of a steady nutritional diet, plentiful clean water, and vitamins, Jesse looks like a completely different dog. Also, with the daily eye drops we now give Jesse, her eyesight seems to have improved and hopefully will not deteriorate any further.

Our daily nightly walks are the highlight of Jesse's day now. But,imagine a dog who does not know what 'go for a walk' means! Yes, Jesse must never have been taken for a walk because when we first brought her home she did not know what that phrase meant. Even without this experience, right from the start Jesse walked and still walks on a leash better than any dog I have ever known. Our 8 year old daughter can even walk her. We have never owned a dog who walked on a leash better than Jesse even after being obedience trained.

Jesse also loves to travel. She has been camping in West Virginia twice and to New York once. She loves to travel in our van and to sleep inour tent. Jesse also loves to play with her toys, she loves 'pig ears',and Frosty Paws (frozen dog treats). Imagine a dog with no toys, treats, or bones to play with! Yes, since she did not have toys or bones to play with, apparently Jesse must have frequently chewed on rocks she found outside because the vet could tell this was the case after examining her teeth.

My family has in the past had a Doberman Pincher and a German Short Haired Pointer who were pure bred and purchased from breeders as puppies. Of course, they were loved and very special pets to our family, but some how it's not the same type of relationship as with an adopted or rescued pet.

Also in the past, we were fortunate enough to have taken in two kittens which we rescued from the outdoors, and we had the benefit of sharing in their lives for many years. I have found through experience that pets who are rescued or adopted from wonderful organizations such as Forgotten Felines and Fidos are the most loyal, loving, and obedient animals one could ever hope for.

Jesse__MomIfyou are worried about how your adopted pet will act inside your home, Iwill try to set your mind at ease. Please remember, Jesse lived outside and in a barn, plus she is partially blind. When we brought her into our home, she was unbelievably well behaved. We both work full-time, so she is in the house by herself for about 10 hours a day, five days a week. It is my belief that these adopted pets are so thankful to beloved, nurtured, and sheltered, that they truly appreciate what they have and cherish every moment.

There are plenty of pets out there in need of a good home. Forgotten Felines and Fidos would love to show them to you and tell you about them. Why not give it a try? A little bit of patience and love in the beginning is all that is required of you. Believe me, you will not regret it! If it doesn't work out for you and your family, Forgotten Felines and Fidos will gladly take your pet back.
